Snow Images

It's snowing! Wow! Let's get out there - catch it, feel it, express it - get it all down somehow...on paper...on canvas...trudge through the snow carrying THE KIT....get exhausted even before you start. But there is something there, something about those moments, those nuances of colour, those reflections in the whiteness, so they are no longer blank-white, but full of shades, tones and above all - colour. Snow is so rare in the UK that when it comes you want to make the most of it. So here are a few attempts, experiments - results even. Almost all are done on the spot but there are one or two from sketches and even inspirations from a photograph or two. With a photo you can work something up in a warm studio...but careful! Very tempting! Personally I don't feel you can beat those moments, feet in the snow, hands in warm mitts, thick woolly hat on top and guy-ropes stopping everything from getting blown away in the wind. Something of all of that finds its way into the painting, bringing hopefully just a taste of the wonder of it all.
